Happy Friday!

Here’s another image from Sand Beach in Acadia National Park.  Looking at this image now I would have composed it completely different. Oh well, that’s part of the learning experience though.  Hopefully everything works out for me to move out there so I can retake this image sooner than later.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend with great opportunities for the camera.

Sand Beach

This is an experimental processing image for me.  I tried to keep in the cool blue color of the water in the image and have the rest be black and white.  Not totally sure if I like it or not so I posted the the experimental image and the full color image.  Let me know what you think.

This image was taken at Sand Beach at Acadia National Park.  What a gorgeous place Acadia is, located on Desert Island.  I believe it is the smallest of the national parks but I’m not sure about that.  Unfortunately, the sun was setting at 4:30 so we didn’t get much time within the park except for a quick drive around the loop road.

This is one of my personal favorite photos I’ve taken over the past couple of years.  The Portland Head Light is something else for a piece of history.  It was first lit way back in 1791.  The ground it stands on was used to keep an eye for possible British attacks during the Revolutionary War.  It was quite the sight to see a structure with such history and age.  It something you don’t find much here in the Midwest.

Hello everybody.  I finally made it back from the gorgeous state of Maine!  What a great time it was, with a lot of things to see and capture.  I had a lot of fun with my new B+W 10-Stop ND Filter.  I hope you are ready to see a lot of photos from Maine in the near future.

This shot was captured a long the coastline just outside Portland.  I was able to find a walkway down the cliffs so I could get closer to the water.  As I got down to the bottom all I could think about was this grossly bad smell.  I took a quick glance around to see what it could be but didn’t see anything with the 3 second scan.  So I started to move forward almost stumbling over a dead sea lion.  This guy had probably been dead for awhile now because he was pretty well decayed. The lesson learned here is I should have looked a little closer to my feet during my glance.  I thought about taking a detail picture of him for the blog but I didn’t want you to lose your breakfast.

Happy Friday everyone!  I want to thank everyone for their advice on yesterday’s photo.  I’m going to work on it over the weekend with the added advice and see what comes from it.

Last weekends trip to St. Louis had a soul purpose and that was to see my great friend, Kraemer.  He made the long journey from New Mexico to run in the Rock N’ Roll Marathon in St. Louis (where he is originally from).  What a crazy kid he is to want to run 26.2 miles, especially with a goal to run it in 4:10 hours.  My other good friend Justin and I helped Kraemer throughout the race such as refilling his camel pack and giving him those energy jelly beans.  You might say we were his pit crew.  We met him at the ten mile marker where the nutty Kraemer had enough energy to pretend to hurdle an imaginary hurdle.  His energy was dwindling by the time we caught up to him at the 20 mile marker.  Fortunately, he had enough energy to complete the race in a dead sprint for the finish line for a time of 3:58 hours (see image below of him pointing). The unfortunate thing about helping Kraemer during the marathon is I now want to run one.  The atmosphere and environment was so inspirational making me want to join the race while watching.  So here’s to a new goal and to training!

I hope everyone has a great weekend full of inspiration!

I am pretty disappointed with how this shot turned out.  I just think the bridge had too much detail for my little D90 to capture.  This bridge was unbelievable to be under with all of the iron work keeping it standing.  I know I might be using my camera as a scapegoat for this shot but to be honest I think it might just be the composition.  What do you think?  What would you do to capture the grand scale of details on this structure?

I appreciate the advice and help.

I was able to find time to make it down to the arch during the golden hour.  The light was bouncing perfectly off the arch perfectly creating the illusion that it had been wrapped in gold. It was quite a view.

Late post today.  I made it back from an awesome weekend in St. Louis with lots of pictures from the St. Louis Arch and the Rock N’ Roll Marathon.  Today’s image is just a start/teaser of what is to come.  I hope you all had a great weekend as well!

Kick

Kick is part of the Lips of Faith Series from New Belgium.  I’m not fully sure what the Lips of Faith Series is.  From what I have read though it seems like it is a collaborative project between brewers that bring you extremely unique beers for a limited time.  Kick certainly brings you a unique flavor.  75% is Ale brewed with pumpkin and cranberry juice with the remaining 25% being ale aged in wooden barrels.  I wasn’t sure if I liked the slightly sour taste of the brew at first.  As I took my second taste I was completely hooked to this autumn beer.  That slight sour taste is extremely smooth that likes to go down easily.  I definitely recommend this beer to anyone.  I will be keeping an eye for more from the Lips of Faith Series.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.  I won’t be around on Monday as I’ll be heading back from St. Louis.

Swan

Short post today. I found this guy at the Iowa State Fair a couple of months ago.  It was pretty cool how close you could get to them.
