Happy Friday Everyone!

The other morning I noticed this small piece of ice hanging off the back decks handrail.  I had to try to capture it with my macro lens.  As time went by things got better as it started to melt.  This is the last frame I got before the drop fell to it’s fate.  I decided to change the background to B&W while leaving the ice in color.  I really like fluidity you get from the contrast between the B&W and color.

I apologize for such quick posts this week.  I’ve been trying to wrap my head around lightroom while doing a whole bunch of other stuff.  Lightroom has turned my processing world upside down.  It’s great though, I can’t wait to get more use to this extremely powerful tool.

My wife and I have also decided to move to Colorado in the next couple of months, this is of course if things work out the way they are suppose to.  I’m originally from Denver and have lots of family out there.  We are very excited for this awesome change in our life (So is my camera!).

I hope you all have wonderful weekends with great opportunities to shoot.

Happy Friday!  I hope you had a great week.

Simple photo for today’s post.  I was messing around with some macro photography the other night and happened to find my wife’s eye in good lighting.  Luckily she is such a good sport with me and my photography.  She put up with me sticking a camera lens in her face until I got a good shot.

I hope you all have a great weekend with great opportunities for photos.

Iced

Today we experiment with some texture overlays.  These are something that have been growing on me over the past months but I haven’t played with much.  It’s fun to see them turn an ordinary photo into something a bit more unique.  This image I decided was pretty plan and no fun so I decided to see what a couple textures could do.  I used onOne’s Photo Tools for these overlays.  What do you use when you create texture overlays?  Do you the textures I used in the image work well?  Critiques are welcome as always!

So I’m a day late on releasing my first wallpaper calendar.  I just decided yesterday that I wanted to start adding free wallpapers to my site for everyone to enjoy.  This is my first of many to come. It was taken on a hike in Maine several weeks back.  As we walked back to our vehicle I looked down to see this stunning red maple leaf.  I was able to find some nice green moss to put it on in attempt to get some nice red/green contrast.  Unfortunately the moss didn’t contrast like I was hoping.  So I turned to plan B, which was to take out all of the color in the image minus the maple leaf’s color.  I was really pleased with how it turned out.  The detail is fun to look at.

I have two different size ratios for wallpapers that you can download.  One being a 2560 x 1600 ratio and the other a 1600 x 1200.  I just went by what my computer monitors resolution is and picked another ratio that is popular.  If you have any suggestions for any other sizes just let me know and I’ll try to add them in for next month.

Trapped

Quick post today.  Been busy all night applying to some great looking jobs.  Hopefully one turns out to be the one!

Today’s image is another from my practice shoot with a macro lens.  I kinda like this one better over all.  The focus is better and I like the composition a little more.  Let me know what you think.

After dinner last night I noticed my father-in-laws venus flytraps.  I immediately thought to myself what a great subject to practice some macro photography with.  So I grabbed my camera and started shooting away.  This is one of my favorites I took.  I’m going to process a couple more and see what I get.  Remember critiquing is welcome!

This is my first macro shot.  My father-in-law gave me his old macro lens converter.  It’s not the real thing but it will do until I get better at these shots.  Unfortunately the subject was of something I despise, the spirea shrub.  I can’t stand spirea, they are the most over used plant (along with hosta).  The problem is they are so darn hardy and require no maintenance.  You could try to kill these guys and they would still come back, it’s crazy!  They make perfect sense for apartment complexes,  commercial, and so on where people don’t want to maintain the landscape besides mow.  I have even had to use them in a design for an apartment complex already in my young career.  This makes me despise them even more!  But, I must say they do have pretty cool looking flowers.  Never really noticed them until I took this shot.  This might be because I never gave the plant a chance and actually take some time to look at these extremely small flowers.  They are only a few millimeters in diameter if you have never seen a spirea, which I doubt.  Well that is my rant on these over used plants.
